Canton Fair Interpreter & Assistant Badge 2026 (140th): Who Can Enter With You, What It Costs, and the 2-Day Filing Rule

A Canton Fair interpreter can go into the halls with you only on a paid "Accompanying Personnel for Overseas Buyers" badge, and only you, the registered overseas buyer, can apply for it. For the 140th session (Autumn 2026), the organizer allows one interpreter and one assistant per buyer per phase. The fee is RMB 300 per day plus a RMB 50 administrative fee, and each application must be submitted at least 2 days before the visit day. Interpreters must hold a CATTI or NAETI certificate or a foreign-language degree from a mainland Chinese university. To bring an interpreter on 15 October, you file by 13 October. Everything outside the halls needs no fair badge: the airport run, supplier dinners, factory visits, and the interval days. That is the part China Travel X handles.

Who can enter the halls with you

You can bring up to two Chinese companions per phase into the 140th Canton Fair: one interpreter and one assistant, each registered as an accompanying person on a paid badge that you file from your own buyer account. The application asks for the companion's mobile number and PRC resident identity card number, and the organizer's 139th-session notice described the badge as being for companions who hold a PRC resident identity card. Colleagues with foreign passports don't use this badge; they pre-register as overseas buyers in their own name, which is free. Buyers from Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan, and buyers on a Chinese passport, can file an assistant but not an interpreter. Drivers, travel escorts, and factory contacts who stay outside the complex need no fair badge at all. The table sets out who needs what.

The 2-day filing rule: deadlines for each phase of the 140th Canton Fair

The notice says applications must be submitted at least 2 calendar days in advance and gives one example: attendance on 15 October means filing no later than 13 October. The table applies that rule to every hall day of the 140th session. Hours are 9:30–18:00 at the Canton Fair Complex, Pazhou, Guangzhou.

Intervals (20–22 Oct and 28–30 Oct): no onsite exhibition, so there is nothing to file for those dates.

What the badge costs, and what the fee does not cover

The organizer's fee is RMB 300 per day plus a RMB 50 administrative fee. A badge counts as used once an entry gate has scanned it, and used badges are not refunded.

Worked examples, assuming the RMB 50 administrative fee is charged once per badge. Check the total shown in the Buyer Service System before you pay.

This fee goes to the fair and only covers entry. It is not the interpreter's pay. Whatever you agree with the person or agency you hire is a separate contract. Put in writing who pays the badge fee, the daily hours, and what happens if the badge application is rejected.

Canton Fair assistant and interpreter registration, step by step

One rule to take seriously: the organizer requires a genuine accompanying relationship. If it finds a fake arrangement, it can confiscate both your badge and your companion's, remove you both from the venue, put you on the badge blacklist, and keep the fees. Forum posts regularly appear from people asking foreign buyers they don't know to "submit my info" for a badge. Do not file for anyone who is not actually working with you.

Inside the halls vs outside: two different jobs

Buyers often use "interpreter" for two different roles. They follow different rules.

FAQ

Can my Canton Fair interpreter apply for the badge themselves? No. Only the overseas buyer can start the application, through the official Buyer Service System. The organizer then reviews it. Interpreters and assistants cannot apply on their own behalf.

How much does a Canton Fair interpreter badge cost? RMB 300 per day plus a RMB 50 administrative fee, paid to the fair. Once an entry gate has scanned the badge it is not refundable. This is separate from what you pay the interpreter.

How many days before do I need to apply? At least 2 days before each visit day. For 15 October, apply by 13 October. For the first day of Phase 2 (23 October), apply by 21 October. For Phase 3 (31 October), apply by 29 October.

How many people can come into the Canton Fair with me? On accompanying badges, up to two per phase: one interpreter and one assistant. Colleagues who hold foreign passports register as buyers themselves, and that badge is free.

What qualifications does a Canton Fair translator need? For the interpreter badge: a CATTI or NAETI certificate, or a graduation certificate in a foreign-language major from a university in mainland China. The assistant badge needs no translation credential.

I'm a Hong Kong buyer. Can I bring an interpreter? Not on an interpreter badge. Buyers from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and buyers holding a Chinese passport, can apply for an assistant badge only.

Do I need a badge for my interpreter at factory visits or dinners? No. The accompanying badge is only for entry to the fair complex. Factory visits, supplier dinners, and interval days need no fair badge.

Can China Travel X provide my in-hall interpreter? Our standard service is outside the halls: escort, car, and factory days. Hall access depends on a badge that only you can file, for a named person who meets the organizer's rules. If you need in-hall interpretation, book a credentialed interpreter and file the badge yourself. We plan the days around it.
